LAST GANG IN TOWN presents…A Fundraising Benefit for THE ROMSEY TOWN ROLLERBILLIES

Jack Rabbit Slim, undeniably one of the hottest Rockabilly bands to come out of the UK, are going to be playing their frantic brand of red-hot sleaze-a-billy for the benefit of the Rollerbillies on October 25th. Rock! They headlined at Viva Las Vegas festival. They love rollergirls. We love them. So they’re gona be at the Man on the Moon, and if you’ve got smarts you’ll wana be there too.

And that’s not all. We’ve also got Aces and Eights, full-frontal psychobillies from Leeds, who’ll be providing frenzied hollerin’ over screaming geetars, red hot double bassin’ and speedball drums. Just in case you’d considered staying out of the mosh pit.
And completing the line up: Last Gang DJs, serving you up an extra helping of rockabilly, psychobilly and punk. Don’t say we don’t treat you right.

One more time: Saturday 25th October, Man on the Moon, 2 Norfolk St, Cambridge CB1 2LF. £6 on the door. To reserve your tickets email lastgangintownuk@yahoo.co.uk

Rollerbillies’ profits exceed 11p

8 09 2008

Last night the Rollerbillies and the Last Gang DJs put on a fundraiser in aid of our starving kitty. We’re not the most gifted capitalists, and we price our cupcakes competitively, so our Pink Festival stall made us exactly 11p. Obviously the value of our new recruits is inestimable, and our stall kicked ass, but we need the cold, hard, jingly cash – we could use some more little orange cones from the Early Learning Centre, and we’d feel bad stealing from the children. Happily, we won’t have to – the music was swell, the people turned up, they gave us money, let us write on their hands, and bought our badges. And it turns out the floor in the pub is quite nice for skating. We’re in business.

Did you see us at Pink Festival?

If you were there you wouldn’t have missed us – we were the only ones in green. And if you weren’t there, you totally missed out – the sun was shining, everyone was having a lovely time, there was a little machine pumping bubbles all over the place, and the Rollerbillies’ stall was awesome. Not only did we have a cosy chill out area (featuring a live napping rollergirl), we had stacks of flyers, 100 cupcakes with dinky little flags, Rollerbillies merch, clipboards, and our smiley recruiting faces.

In between recruiting, we ate some sweets given to us by strangers, enjoyed tasty falafels and fine goat curry, and skated around on a little platform which was intended either for wheelchair users or wannabe podium dancers. Back on the stall, we met some excellent people, tempted passers-by with our lurid cupcakes, and got lots of names on our sign-up sheets. One girl got so excited after we explained roller derby to her, she hugged Quad Ophelia and squealed. Good times.

So by 3pm we’d run out of flyers, and we’d even sold our decorative derby Barbie. By take-down time all the cupcakes had been sold (or eaten by us) and our feet hurt. Grass and lumpy park paths are not the best surfaces for rollergirls on skates, but it looked like the trannies in stripper shoes and the hippies on stilts were treading carefully too, so everyone got to hone some skills.

If you’re interested in becoming a Rollerbillly and you haven’t given us your email address, contact us at rollerbillies@gmail.com and we can add you to our mailing list. We’ll be running a skate session for new recruits soon, so we’ll send you details, or you can arrange to watch some training if you want to see us in action.
